Cambridge Programmes at Symbiosis World School

At Symbiosis World School, the Cambridge Programme offers a globally recognised pathway from IGCSE (Grades 9–10) to AS & A Levels (Grades 11–12).

Cambridge IGCSE

(Grades 9–10)

General Outline

The Cambridge IGCSE program is an internationally recognized qualification designed for students aged 14–16.
A two-year programme leading to a globally recognized certificate
Promotes high academic standards and practical application of knowledge
Provides a strong foundation for further studies such as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

Core and Extended Levels

In selected subjects, students may be entered for either:

Extended Level

Covers more advanced content
Grades available: A* to E

Core Level

Covers foundational concepts
Grades available: C to G

Coursework

In selected subjects, students may be entered for either:

Completed during the course under teacher supervision
Assessed internally following strict Cambridge criteria
Samples are moderated by Cambridge examiners

IGCSE Programme at SWS

Students are generally entered for Extended Level
Decisions are made in consultation with teachers, students, and parents based on student performance during the course

At the end of IGCSE Year 1, internal assessments help determine placement into Core or Extended groups. From the start of IGCSE Year 2, teaching is tailored to the level of IGCSE schools in Pune.

Cambridge AS & A Levels

Transitition to grade 11 &12

The Cambridge curriculum provides a seamless transition from middle school to university. It is globally recognized for its academic rigor, encouraging students to become confident, responsible, reflective, innovative, and engaged.

AS & A Levels

The Gold Standard (Years 11 & 12)

As students move into the "Advanced" stage, they begin to specialize. Cambridge International AS & A Levels are the primary gateway to the world’s best universities.

AS Level (Advanced Subsidiary)

Typically taken in Year 12, the AS Level represents the first half of a full A Level course. It allows students to maintain a broader range of subjects before narrowing their focus in their final year.

A Level (Advanced Level)

The full A Level is a two-year course, with final exams taken at the end of Year 12.

Deep Specialization: Students generally choose 3 or 4 subjects that align with their career goals or university requirements.
